About This Spot

Black Dice Cafe unfolds like a well-kept secret along Dundas West, welcoming you into a cozy, intimate bar where time seems to slow just enough to savor each moment. The atmosphere hums with a laid-back yet vibrant energy — a small space pulsing with hints of Japanese rock ’n’ roll spirit and a retro 50s glow that invites both quiet conversations and lively hangouts.

Here, the rhythm is unhurried. A jukebox spins classic tunes while the occasional chime of a pinball machine adds a playful, nostalgic undertone. It’s the kind of place where you might find yourself lingering over an exquisitely crafted cocktail, intrigued by the stories behind Japanese whisky or the artful twist on sake drinks. The bartenders bring more than expertise; they offer a genuine connection, sharing their knowledge and passion that enrich the experience beyond the glass.

Black Dice’s charm comes equally from its drinks and its character. Expect thoughtfully curated Japanese whiskies and delicate sake cocktails served with care, perfect for those seeking something beyond the usual night out — be it a quiet sip of a whisky highball or a refreshing swirl of lychee sake. The beer options, like a crisp Asahi Super Dry, complement this subtle exploration of flavors.

Despite its small footprint, the bar never feels cramped or hurried. Instead, it fosters a communal warmth where friendships can grow effortlessly, and moments between friends stretch easily into the night. Just a heads-up: Black Dice stays true to a cash-only policy, which aligns with its nostalgic vibe and unpretentious spirit.

Whether you’re drawn by the refined drink selections, the friendly chatter behind the bar, or the vintage jukebox soundtrack, Black Dice Cafe captures a slice of Toronto’s quirky, intimate nightlife. It’s a place to discover not only drinks but also shared stories, a relaxed pace, and the kind of atmosphere that feels quietly alive and wholly welcoming.

A very nice chill vibe! Great for a hangout with friends! The sake cocktails are a must try! A great range of drinks. The Asahi was just brilliant - nice, chilled and crisp. The atmosphere is amazing and so was Gordon who made some killer cocktails and talked a lot about Japan and how bars are setup there and also the secret behind the Asahi! Be mindful to carry Cash, as this is a Cash Only bar!

Great intimate little spot for Japanese Whisky and cocktails. Bartender was super friendly and knowledgeable and the decor is enough reason to come on by. Just keep in mind it is a fairly smaller venue and it is CASH ONLY. ATM Downstairs charges a 4$ fee. I recommend coming here with 1-2 friends before heading out someplace!

Charlotte treated me really well. She's not the stereotypical chatty friendly bartender and certainly has an edge to her when other customers ask "dumb questions" but she went over and above for me. I purchased a $15 tote bag and an ounce of $18 single malt whisky plus several games of pinball. Previous review: Cash only. 25 cent pinball game. Friendly staff. Tasty cocktails.

Great atmosphere and drinks combined with excellent 50s vibes. Fully operational jukebox and pinball machine are . Really enjoyed my non-alcoholic Japanese whiskey highball.

A unique twist of a dive bar, with a Japanese Rock n Roll blend. They have a decent selection of Japanese beers and whiskey (along with other options). Small and intimate space perfect for catching up with friends over a drink or four. The jukebox has a great list of classic hits.

Black Dice is a gorgeous little dive bar with a great selection of Japanese beer and whiskey. It’s small, intimate and full of character. The decor is maximalist, nostalgic, and effortlessly cool. Definitely worth a visit for easy drinking with a few friends or a date! It is a cash only joint, but they do have an atm downstairs. And let’s be honest, the best places are always cash only
